Over the summer, I had the chance to work with the amazing artist, Francis Muscat.  He works mainly with glass but one of his talents is integrating other material into his art such as wood, metal, rock, etc.  When I think glass art, my mind automatically jumps to stained glass work in churches.  Francis set me straight really fast.  I don't want to generalize him but a lot of his work is either sculptural or integrated into landscaping design - he does so much more than windows!

This particular project of his is defined by texture, in my opinion.  The smoothness of the glass and the roughness of the rocks form a contrast which plays off one another in a really beautiful way.  And the curves of the glass which give the ridged and unyielding material appear as effortless as flowing water is also something Francis does so well.

Have a good week, everyone!  Blog it up!

  1. for want of sounding like i'm just rhyming off buzz words I love how contrast(of materials) is used to create unity and flow in this piece
