This is a music video from one of my favorite bands, Avenged Sevenfold. I'm not particularly interested in the animation or style but viewing from the basics, it's pure illustration depicting the story of the song.
I simply love how as the song progresses, the story gets more dramatic and these are one of those few videos where the song content and lyrics are being illustrated. The video is quite long so bear with me but I can assure you despite it's rather graphical and mature context, both the song and video is much fascinating.

Interesting take on a music video, I like the way the metaphor 'tore out my heart' is depicted literally to gruesome effect. Use of texture, and colour is strong. Good pacing, as you mentioned, although occasionally repetitive. Conceptually, not crazy about the base, somewhat stereotypically misogynistic content, but that does not reflect on you, as you made it clear that the things you enjoyed about the video had to do with the use of illustration as a method of storytelling within a video.
